Martin Jagger, Operations Director, Advisor on Energy Transition and Decarbonisation at WeConnect Energy, will discuss the UAE NetZero 2050 Roadmap.


Tom Samson, CEO of Rolls-Royce SMR Limited, will discuss the role of SMR in decarbonising Energy Systems (the Small Modular Reactor (SMR) programme is one of the ways that Rolls-Royce is meeting the need to ensure the UK continues to develop innovative ways to tackle the global threat of climate change.)


This breakfast event provides opportunity to contribute to the Energy Transition conversation, and make connections ahead of WFES.

    Advisor on Energy Transition and Decarbonisation at WeConnect Energy

    Martin’s 36-year career with Shell International he worked throughout the Middle East, including assignments within ADNOC's Executive Office, as advisor to the current Iraqi Oil Minister, as Shell's Exploration Ventures Manager for the Middle East and as Business Opportunity Manager for the Saudi Gas Initiative.

    In 2007 he setup Shell's Carbon Capture and Storage Centre of Excellence and supported the development of emerging international standards, regulation and policy structures for safe storage. He is lead author of the Carbon Capture and Storage Methodology accepted by the UNFCCC Clean Development Mechanism at COP17.

    CEO of Rolls-Royce SMR Ltd

    Tom Samson is the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Rolls-Royce SMR Limited. He has over 30 years of experience in the power industry in various senior level executive positions in the UK and internationally. Tom began his career as a Chartered Engineer at GEC Alstom designing combined cycle gas fired power plants before joining Marubeni Corporation where he helped them grow their global power portfolio and undertook a number of CEO and Board level assignments across that portfolio in the UAE and USA.

    Tom’s first major role in the nuclear industry came when he joined ENEC in the UAE as the Chief Operating Officer where he helped establish Nawah Energy as the operator of Barakah, the first nuclear power plant in the region before returning to the UK as CEO and Board member at NuGeneration Ltd, which was responsible for developing a new nuclear power station at Moorside in Cumbria. In early 2020 Tom joined Rolls-Royce to lead their SMR Consortium and is the CEO and Board Member of Rolls-Royce SMR Limited.
