Event Details

Join British Chamber of Commerce Abu Dhabi and Quilter Cheviot for a session about Personal Taxation and Financial Planning Considerations for UK connected individuals.

When: Wednesday, 23rd October 2024

Time: 8am - 10am

Where: TBC

British expatriates and future residents may be surprised to know that the UK tax code is the longest, and probably the most complex in the world. Living overseas, in an environment with no personal taxes, does not assure the results many expect. Even those with no past or future connections, other than wealth there, can be subject to significant taxation. This session considers the unexpected nuances, tax-traps and opportunities, considering property, retirement planning and investments.

Learning objectives:

  • Determine when to consider when and how tax residency changes, the importance of timing and the implications for personal taxation on income and investments
  • Understand the common-law concept pf domicile, and importance for inheritance tax
  • Comprehend possible changes, under a new Labour Government
  • Gain knowledge in retirement planning, and the UK-UAE 2016 Double Tax Convention
  • Discuss the differential tax treatment of UK property
